Introductory Blog Post

Welcome to my new website.

Here you will find updates on my recent work both in East Dunbartonshire and in Westminster. I’ll also provide responses to the biggest issues that I’m being contacted about (previous examples include the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter campaign and the heinous actions of Dominic Cummings).

If you are a constituent of East Dunbartonshire and need to get in touch directly to discuss a case, you can find my contact information here.

Since becoming an MP at the 2019 General Election, it has been an absolute privilege to serve the people of East Dunbartonshire.

Whilst the past year has been particularly difficult for everyone, myself and my team have taken great pride in dealing with thousands of cases over this period and doing what we can to help all those in need.

It has been an honour to represent East Dunbartonshire and Scotland within the UK Parliament – particularly when it comes to the topic of our incredible NHS. It should go without saying that it has been an immense privilege to be able to use my platform to champion the work done by our amazing health and social care sectors.

Indeed, my first speech to parliament was on the topic of Health and Social Care - which I used to reaffirm my commitment that, throughout my time as an MP, I will continue to fight against the growing wave of privatisation and vested corporate interest in our health service. You can view this speech, in full, here –

I am also exceptionally grateful and proud to be Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Children, Teenagers and Young Adults with cancer, giving a voice to young cancer patients across the UK.

It goes without saying that most of my work, however, has been assisting the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic – whether this be local businesses struggling to obtain financial support or raising matters of charity funding for local groups, such as STAND International, directly with the Government –

On a similar note, one topic I have been keen to highlight throughout this crisis (and again one that I will continue to platform) is workers’ rights across all industries. Throughout my time in Parliament, I have continued to raise the impact that grey areas in the financial support schemes are having on workers – particularly those in fixed-term contracts who were being left behind in the middle of this crisis.

I have also continued to support initiatives aimed at improving the rights of workers in the UK, including calls to ban despicable ‘Fire and Re-Hire’ practices we have seen from many large employers over this pandemic.

While the above is just a few examples of the sort of things I’ve been up to since my election, I am hoping that now my new and improved website will make it easier for you all to keep up with my work.

As I say, keep an eye out for my updates on this page for my comments on the big issues happening in the constituency and wider world.

As always, if you are a constituent and require help and support, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
