Amy hails "community hero" Peter O'Keefe

Updated: Apr 17

East Dunbartonshire MP, Amy Callaghan, has described local man Peter O’Keefe as a “community hero” as she congratulated him on being awarded the McDonald’s Special Recognition Award at the Grassroots Awards 2021.

Mr O’Keefe is well-known for operating restaurants across Glasgow over the last 25 years, but it is his passionate support for grassroots football that has led to this award, including his support for Milngavie FC.

Now Ms Callaghan has submitted an Early Day Motion in recognition of Mr O’Keefe’s achievements, noting his other charitable fundraising activity and “efforts to give back to the community over the years”.

Ms Callaghan was present at the Grassroots Awards 2021 held earlier this month.

Commenting, Amy Callaghan MP said:

“Peter is a real community hero and I’m delighted to see him receive this well-deserved award.

“It’s not just Peter’s support for grassroots football, but his other charitable work has made a real difference to countless people. He’s completed 13 marathons, multiple kilt walks and organised lots of other fundraising events to raise thousands for charity.

“That’s why I’ve submitted a motion at Westminster recognising Peter’s tremendous achievements.”
